the-lion-and-the-unicorn I was rewatching your diary a few minutes ago, mainly because it's so soothing and magical, and I almost fell out of my chair when I noticed that you were wearing the Felissimo Syrup cardigan that I fell in love with this very morning and have been trying to get at all day. Unbelievable coincidence, but... I was wondering if you could give me some tips. I'm terrible at ordering things from websites that are in foreign languages. If it's not too much trouble, could you tell me how you managed it?

Hello!

It’s somewhat embarrassing to hear that, I think my voice is sour and ugly and very greenish yellow honestly. But I’m glad it helps you.

I’m glad to help you with that! I’m going to publish my response in case anyone else would like to order things from a Japanese website. What a coincidence, though, you found it right that morning!

The first thing you need is a shopping service located in Japan that speaks both English (or your language of use) and Japanese. Find a person with lots of good feedback, or otherwise someone that you trust. It can be a company, like Japonica Market (they were wonderful with me!), or a single person that dedicates the entirety of its time to shopping for others, like Mukunoki, who used to be my favourite shopping service but unfortunately he’s had some sort of health issue so he can’t work anymore. There are lots of shopping service reviews in mori / lolita communities in LiveJournal, usually in unlocked entries since they serve as references for people that don’t necessarily use LJ but still share the same hobbies as the people within the communities.
Anyway, you ought to pay it a certain amount before the service buys your items, I think, like a sort of fee, a deposit, to ensure you are working with the service. Then you usually send it the amount of money you need for both the item and national shipping, meaning from the office in Japan to the shopping service’s location, as long as a product is in stock (you or the service must check first). In the case of an auction, you tell them how much you want to bid and if you win, you pay whatever amount you asked from them.
Then when they receive your items, they’ll ask you to pay for worldwide shipping of your choice (EMS / airmail / priority / etc.), which should include fees if you’re paying through PayPal. Most services encourage you to pay through credit or debit card through PayPal because it’s fast and relatively easy.

And that’s it! It’s really simple, first you give them a deposit, the money for your items with national shipping, they arrive and then you can choose what shipping method you’d like (they usually give you an estimate for each type based on your item’s weight and your location), you pay for shipping costs and voilà!

I hope it’s still on stock and that you can buy it! It’s a really lovely and soft cardigan, I’ve had it for about a year and as much as I’ve worn it still feels really nicely. :)

(For the record, you can do this with any product in any country, not just Japan! Just find a person worth your trust that knows how to shop online, or find a product you’d like in its location, and similar if not same procedures apply. I’ve had the same experience buying something from the United States.)
